Experiential Learning

The process of learning through hands-on experiences

The Benefits of Experiential Learning

At Laurel we define Experiential Learning as the process of learning through hands-on experiences. We believe this gives students the opportunity to gain real-world knowledge in the classroom that they can apply in the workforce. There are a multitude of benefits to experiential learning including (but never limited to): the opportunity to immediately apply what you’ve learned, improved motivation, the opportunity for reflection, and real world practice.

Develops the capacity to adapt to new situations

Bridge the gap between theory and practice

Provides a safe place to fail and try again

Allows for an accurate assessment of skills

Gain work experience from classwork

See How We Incorporate
Experiential Learning Into Our Programs

Laurel applies the concept of Experiential Learning to all of our programs in a variety of ways including our Cosmetology’s Redken Premier Student Salon, our Culinary Art’s Student Restaurant – Gigi’s Table, and the Electrical Technician’s simulation lab just to name a few! Student’s benefit substantially from experiential learning by increasing critical thinking skills and problem solving skills, fostering creativity, assuming responsibility and more!

Hands-On Labs Offered at Laurel

Laurel believes that hands-on learning is one of the most beneficial ways to absorb knowledge and skills. Students can experience an increase in the amount of information they retain when given the chance to practice the theory they are learning. We believe in an engaging environment to help a students appetite for the learning process and to encourage the willingness to listen and pay attention! We feel that it is important for students to feel empowered in their own learning situation in order to promote critical thinking and real-world experience! That’s why we have hands-on labs from day one in most of our classrooms, using material and equipment based on real jobs that you’ll be looking to get after completion of your program!
